Gonzales went before the Senate Judiciary Committee yesterday to defend our douchebag president's program of unlawful spying.

A good excerpt to give you an idea of what happened:

At the end of the hearing, Gonzales let slip the real reason Bush set up a
program to evade FISA. Gonzales said that if the government had to apply for
a FISA warrant, it "can't begin surveillance based on a whim
of someone at NSA."

Gonzales would not tell the senators whether Bush has authorized other secret
programs besides the NSA spying. Gonzales refused to say whether the government
could wiretap purely domestic calls without a warrant, or whether he has the
authority to search the first class mail of American citizens or to examine
people's medical records. When Republican Senator John Cornyn asked him whether
law enforcement could shoot down a plane with drugs, Gonzales said, "I'd
have to think about that."

Gonzales declined to rule out the president's commander in chief power to torture,
notwithstanding Congress's passage of the McCain Amendment on December 30. When
Republican Senator Lindsey Graham asked him whether a Congressional statute
that forbids abuse of prisoners could infringe on the president's commander
in chief powers, Gonzales said, "It depends."

WOW. THAT BLOWS MY FUCKING MIND. I don't think there's any more evidence of blatant disregard for the law there!

Article on a recently published (I mean like, yesterday) research study about marijuana. http://www.mapinc.org/drugnews/v05/n1942/a02.html?420

Freaked me out.

Upon closer inspection, the study has some serious flaws. For one thing, there are only 15 participates, only from the ages of 15 to 18. The fact that they smoked every day for a year also creeps me out, particularly when they're that young. I'm not against smoking pot, but I don't think 15 year old kids should be smoking, because they're too impressionable, and from kids I've known, start smoking way too much, and let it get in the way of school and the like. On the other hand, kids who started smoking pot after high school generally know how to behave responsibly and still finish homework and do productive things. The chronic stoners I knew in high school cut classes all the time and didn't even make it to college.

Also, the kids had only quit smoking for a month, which isn't necessarily enough time for cells to regenerate, etc. I that since this is such a new study, they should probably do a similar study with former smokers, and by former I mean people who haven't smoked in say, 5 or 6 years. Other studies have shown that after about a week or two of non-smoking, the mental capacities of people who have smoked pot are the same as non-smokers, and after 1 or 2 days, they're almost the same, and the only difference is a slightly reduced ability to concentrate.

Obviously the effects are not the same as schizophrenia, because I'm certainly not having any hallucinations right now. And neither are those 60 year old ex hippies. Well, maybe if they did acid.

I had no interest in the things she said...

I called her on the phone and she touched herself, she touched herself, she touched herself,
I call her on the phone and she touched herself, I laughed myself to sleep.

You're too young to be this empty girl
I'll prepare you for a sick dark world
Know that you'll be my downfall
But I call and I call and I call.

okay, so it's totally illegal and an abuse of the lady's position. But didn't every guy in middle school want to bone the "hot teacher"? There was ALWAYS a hot teacher, and I know very few guys that never jacked off thinking about some hot teacher in the 7th grade. So one lucky kid got to do it. The judges should just say "Fuckin awesome!" and let Debra LaFave go. They know they wanted to.

An unusual pop-culture question was worth $1000 in yesterday's edition of Jeopardy!”as part of a category
of questions on video games. Unfortunately, none of the contestants knew the answer to this head-scratcher:

This role-playing game out in 2004 returns to the "world" of Azeroth, where heroes like
Leeroy Jenkins do battle

Wow, it made Jeopardy!?
